Insights from the Midwinter Solstice

Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Midwinter Solstice and also share a few words with you…

I love this time of year. Not Christmas time as such, although that has its own loveliness of course, but the shortest day. It means that things are about to shift….the days will begin to get longer again….the return of the light.

Symbolically this is a lovely feeling.

I for one, love the longer, brighter evenings… (who doesn’t?!) But as years have gone on, I have also learned the importance of allowing life’s cycles to happen. And this includes allowing the darkness too.

Just as it is natural to move with natures cycles and have times where we naturally want to hibernate (winter) to times when we feel more energy (summer) it is also natural to sometimes feel happy, and sometimes feel sad. Sometimes feel sociable and sometimes feel like having time alone.

There is a saying that goes ‘One doesn’t know true happiness unless one has experienced sadness’ and I think this is so very true. After experiencing tough times, the joyful times are so much brighter. Everything is appreciated that little bit more.

Solstice really connects me to the awareness of life’s cycles, and of light and dark. In every sense.

Happy Midwinter Solstice 🌙🌗
