Beautiful Wisdom Born from Nature

September 12, 2015 9:15 pm

Today I noticed that the little Cherry Tomato plants in my garden have finally got some red tomatoes on them!  I planted them a bit late, and they seemed to be taking forever to actually turn into anything that resembled a tomato. So this morning, seeing them all lovely and juicy red, made me smile.  I also realised that they held a lot of wisdom…

There’s something so lovely about growing things from seeds. You are there step by step throughout the process of something emerging from such a tiny little thing. I think it reinforces so much about nature and the lessons we can learn from it.

It occurred to me, that there were so many metaphors tied up in me noticing these ripening tomatoes after watching them grow over the past few weeks…

  • Patience

Just because it may feel like something is never going to happen it doesn’t mean it never will.

Perhaps you are having a tough time right now and feel submerged in darkness (like the tomato seed when it was initially planted in the soil)  I remember those dark days very well.

Please try and hold on to hope and remember, that just because you might not be able to  visually see the pathway forwards or the results of your efforts happening yet, it doesn’t mean it is not going to happen.

Change takes time.

Growth takes time.

Healing takes time.

Have patience.

  • Allowing

Just as the tomato seeds couldn’t force themselves to transform into lovely ripe tomatoes in an instant, know the same is true for you.

Allow the process to happen and do your best to embrace each stage as it comes.

Allow yourself time in hibernation when you need it. Time to rest. To be still. To just be.

When the little seed is in its first stages of being planted, it may at times seem like nothing is happening, but these stages are so important. When the time comes to move forward, allow it. Grow. But stay rooted. Stay connected. And when the time comes, let go of old ways of being, just as the tomato plant lets go of unwanted leaves.

  • Little Steps

My tomatoes didn’t just appear over night. It took time!

I couldn’t physically see them transforming from one stage to the next.

One minute they were seeds. Then, after some time they became little shoots. Then as the weeks went by, the shoots got taller. Eventually they began to grow tiny yellow flowers. And then one day, I noticed the first very tiny little green tomato emerging from where one of the flowers had bloomed.

Nature takes its time, and comes in stages. Just as healing does.

Things appear to happen over night (one minute nothing is there, and then suddenly a little green shoot appears) but it is all step by step. Trust this is happening for you. If you are looking after yourself and doing all you can to heal, then your healing is occuring beneath the surface. Just as the tomato plant eventually grows its first tomatoes, you will have your own milestones of growth and healing that come upon you as if by magic.

  • Nourishment

Just as we can’t plant tomato seeds into soil and expect them to grow into healthy tomato plants unless we nurture them, your mind, body and soul are the same. You need nurturing and nourishment, especially if you are on a healing path.

Make sure you look after yourself with the patience and care you would something precious. What this means looks different for everyone. But the basics may be ensuring that you have plenty of rest, water and nourishing food. Take the pressure off yourself and allow yourself to say no when you need to.

Do things that make you feel happy and light you up inside.

Spend time with people you love. Taking time to do things that connect you to ‘you’, perhaps something like yoga or meditation. The list of ways to nurture yourself is endless, but the important thing is that you make sure you look after yourself in the way that feels right for you.

  • We are all Different

Let go of the temptation to compare yourself to others. We are all different, just as we should be.

Everyone has their own trials and tribulations, their own struggles, as well as their own achievments and elations and times to celebrate. Life has its ups and downs, for all of us.

Healing and growth occurs at its own pace, which will be different for everyone. Be ok with this. Just as the little tomatoes of different stages of ripening, we all get to where we are supposed to be in the end, in our own time.

Have faith.

Love,

Emma x

I loved this post so much! Just the message I needed to hear today after having a few moments of near panic after making my lentil soup walloped me. The measure of progress is much less obvious these days so it often feels nonexistent.

Such reminders are so very necessary and appreciated. I loved your line about healing occurring beneath the surface. Yes! Maybe I’m not seeing it but by golly, it’s still happening. 🙂 (That makes me sound like a rural school teacher from the 50’s.)

I adore your blog. Love your lovely words, love your layout and love your photos!

Teresa you are so sweet. Thank you for your gorgeous words. They mean so much.

Healing DOEs occur beneath the surface, and even if there are times where physically we feel we’ve come to a bit of a standstill, they are often the times we are growing emotionally or spiritually and learning new life lessons (that’s been my own experience anyway)

Life is fluid. We are never ‘stuck’

    Lots of love <3

  • Emma, wonderful metaphors and descriptions of growth unseen. We are never static in life even if blind to the growth that is happening.
Lovely post which benefits all of us. Thank you xx
